Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 1, 2026
This site and the D. J. MacIain reader list are run by Tough Hyde Publications. This page explains what information is collected, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: I collect only what I need to send you books and news, and I never sell or share it.
What I collect
- Your email address, and your first name if you give it, when you join the reader list.
- Basic email activity, such as whether an email was opened or a link was clicked. This comes from the email service and helps me know what readers find useful.
- Standard server logs kept by the web host, such as IP address and browser type. This site sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics or advertising trackers.
Why I collect it
To deliver the free story you asked for, and to send you occasional emails about new books, short stories, and related news. The legal basis is your consent, which you give when you sign up and can withdraw at any time.
Services that handle your information
A few trusted services help run things. Each handles your information only to provide its service:
- EmailOctopus manages the mailing list and sends the emails.
- BookFunnel delivers ebook downloads and helps readers who have trouble with them.
- Hostinger hosts this website.
- Google reCAPTCHA checks that sign-ups come from people, not bots. It runs on the sign-up form and is covered by Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
- Google Fonts supplies the typefaces on this site, so your browser connects to Google's servers when a page loads.
Some of these services store data outside your country, including in the United States.
What I don't do
I don't sell, rent, or trade your information. I don't share it with other authors or promotions without asking you first.
How long I keep it
Your details stay on the list until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete them.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe any time with the link at the bottom of every email.
- Ask to see, correct, or delete the information I hold about you by emailing me.
- If you live in the UK or European Union, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
This site and the reader list are meant for adults and are not directed at children under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
